The thermos bottle.
Keeps the hot things hot; keeps the cold things cold.
All by itself.
If you put hot coffee and a popsicle in together. It produces AI slop.
The Pop Up Toaster
A technological advance on the toaster that had wire frames for the bread and a heating coil in the center.
The pop up toaster pretty much ended the phenomenon of burnt toast.
It removed humans' need to watch the bread and make decisions.
The Clock
Beginning in the 1300's, technology in time keeping, advanced with artificial intelligence devices driven by stored energy in coils or springs.
There were problems with the clocks hallucinating. On their own they could run fast or slow.
What's spooky is that even when all energy leaves it and it is dead by any definition, it can still give the correct time twice a day. And it can often be brought back to life sometimes decades after death, by adding energy.
The Mobile Phone
My father, born in 1925, believed the cell phone operated on some kind of mental telepathy. He refused to believe that human voices could be transformed artificially into radio waves and then accurately transformed back without any noticeable delay, thousands of miles away.
There are no obvious moving parts. How does putting a number in make it hit the right phone with only air in between.
He thought I was naive to believe it communicated by invisible waves of electromagnetic radiation. He believed it was a hidden power of the human mind that had always existed, but, like Peter Pan, one had to believe to make it happen. Having a device as a proxy, allowed people to believe.
The Large Language Model
You really believe zeroes and ones running on silicon chips can have a human conversation?
Sam and Elon are laughing their asses off. They hired all the world's phone sex workers with their kabillion dollars, and have them advising us, thinking we're talking to gods and goddesses.
